Came to the blog after such a long hiatus to find this draft sitting there waiting on me. It was written so long ago that I'll publish without edit.
Kevin's 4th grade game was just awful tonight. Our poor boys. The
other team played zone defense which, according to the book, is "highly
discouraged." That's okay though, the other team played it and our
guys had no idea how to defend it. The officials looked as though they might have been tired
from a long day at work or on the golf course. All I'm saying is that
if I can see what they weren't calling then they were really missing
something. But all of that was okay. The boys were very disappointed
and there was one particular boy that played his heart out hoping to
win; trying so very, very hard to come back. They all played hard
but this one was all over the court....trying so very, very hard. It
just wasn't to be our night. The very good news is that our 3rd
graders were able to play quite a bit. The other coach never backed
off of them and that must have been discouraging for them, but they
played and I loved watching. Thankfully, we've always been
part of teams where the coaches would back off if they had a lead and
let the other team walk away with their dignity. Tonight's opposing
coach must not have thought of that. He was going for the smashed-like-a-ripe tomato type of win. Congratulations, Sir, you did it.
